Baptism

What is baptism?

Baptism is when a believer is immersed in water and brought back up. It is a public declaration that a believer has died to sin and been raised to new life in Jesus. It is also a sign of a believer’s incorporation into the body of Christ and a commitment to walk in obedience to Him.

Who should be baptized?

Anyone and everyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and turned from their sin is encouraged to be baptized. It is a common misunderstanding for people to wait until they have their lives more “together” to be baptized. By God’s grace, we don’t have to wait until we are more spiritually mature. If you have repented and believe, be baptized!

Why should I get baptized?

As followers of Jesus, we look to His instructions in Scripture:

  • Baptism was a command by Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20)
  • Jesus Himself was baptized (Matthew 3:13-17)
  • Belief and baptism and are often connected (Acts 2:38-41)
  • It is a public declaration that we belong to Jesus alone (Matthew 10:32)
