Guatemala Mission Trip Summer 2025

For over 30 years, Prince of Peace Home for Girls in Guatemala has been a Christ-centred refuge for girls who have experienced abuse, abandonment, or neglect. This past August, our team had the privilege of spending a week with the 27 girls who currently call Prince of Peace home. Though this trip only lasted six days, it left a lifetime of impact, weaving bonds that felt as if we had known each other forever.

Throughout the week, we heard the girls’ testimonies – stories marked by unimaginable pain and darkness. Yet they’ve been transformed by God’s light. Some were quiet and reserved, others bold and expressive, but one thing they all shared was a deep love for Jesus. Their resilience was humbling. In some quiet one on one time I had with a staff member, she shared with me a verse that guides her daily: “apart from me you can do nothing” -John 15:5. She shared her story with me, how this truth has shaped her life, and how her life has changed from pain to purpose in living connected to Christ.

"...her life has changed from pain to purpose in living connected to Christ."

Our team also had the chance to visit families through mountain ministry. One woman, Karmen, told us she had not received a visitor in over forty years until Prince of Peace came into her life. She is very grateful that we visited her and brought her supplies. She told us: “I know my home is humble but you are welcome here anytime.” Karmen also shared with us the story of her sister, once given only days to live due to advanced cancer, has since been completely healed. Doctors could find no trace of cancer in her blood. Another team recently prayed for God’s healing and power to intercede. Karmen’s faith is unshakable as she testified that prayer works and that God is real.

Yet one of the most unforgettable moments of the trip came during our bonfire night. After dinner, we gathered around the fire and began our time in prayer and worship. We sang “Great Are You Lord” “Gratitude” and “Holy Forever.” I held a girl in each arm as we sang, their voices unguarded and full of passion. Several times I closed my eyes to soak it in – and hold back the tears of how rich this moment we were living in was. Their hearts poured out before the Lord. It was a holy moment, one I will carry with me forever. After worship, one of our leaders led a beautiful devotional and then I shared my testimony. We ended in toasting marshmallows and dancing under the stars.

...what stood out to me most is how deeply Christ-centred this home is...

What stood out to me most is how deeply Christ-centred this home is. The girls pray before every meal, share meals in fellowship as Acts 2:42 teaches, and found joy in our activity of arranging the Old Testament in English, eager to learn and practice. Every part of their lives point back to Jesus, a reminder of how simple yet powerful it is when Christ is at the centre.

Isaiah 9:6 calls the coming child “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Jesus truly is our Prince of Peace, and His presence is evident in this home. I am deeply grateful to have witnessed His work here – to have been a small piece even for a short time as part of His greater plan.
