Cultivating the Mind of Christ

We are all living in the middle of a story.

Actually, we are living in the middle of hundreds of storylines being fed to us everyday in the apps we use, books we read, music we listen to, shows we watch, advertisements that scream for attention, alerts that ding on our phones, real news and fake news, and the conversations we engage in and overhear.

These stories are all trying to persuade and disciple us into a way of thinking. They are all trying to get us to think and feel a certain way.

Is there one real storyline amongst all of these imposter storylines?

As Christians, we would say yes!  There is a real, authoritative, and trustworthy storyline and it is called the Bible. It is God’s inspired and inerrant words to us about the world he has made, the people he has made, and how through his Son Jesus he pursues us to have an everlasting relationship with him.

So, how do we equip our children to process all the stories around them in light of this bigger and best story?

How do we raise them to flourish in this beautiful and creative world God has given us by cultivating minds that do not conform to lesser stories but are being continually transformed by the true story of Jesus Christ? (Rom. 12:2)

How do we help them “take captive” that which is being spoken over them by culture and hold it up to the knowledge of God? (2 Cor. 10:5). How does the truth of who God is act as a guard over our minds (Phil. 4:7)? What about my child’s anxiety, or impulsivity, or stubbornness, or fears, or hopes, or dreams?

Does God’s story have any actual power to speak to the many emotions we and our children experience on a daily basis?

We are going to discuss these questions and more at our Parenting Conference on May 31st in a breakout session called, “Cultivating the Mind of Christ.” If you have not registered yet, you can sign up by clicking the link above.

These are crucial questions to be thinking about whether your child is an infant, pre-teen or teen. Come and join us and be encouraged in the instrumental and crucial role you have as a parent and learn practical ways of how you can help point your children to the best story in the world, the one that infuses their life with meaning and orients their worship and hearts to Jesus, in whose magnificent world we live.
