Deacons hold one of the two offices the New Testament establishes for the local church. At Centre Church, deacons are unpaid volunteers commissioned to serve the congregation by meeting practical needs, supporting leadership so they can stay focused on prayer and teaching, and promoting unity in the body. As 1 Timothy 3:8–13 describes, deacons are called to the same character expected of every Christian, just lived out in a way that’s exemplary in the ordinary.
